In today’s world, we can feel overwhelmed by our schedules, notifications, stressors, and daily demands. Our nervous systems can only handle so much, and once we reach the point of overwhelm, it can feel almost impossible to come back down to a grounded place. We might have tension in our bodies, racing thoughts, or feel disconnected from our bodies.

Yoga for overstimulation is a supportive way to calm down the noise outside of us and make more room for grounding, softness, and regulation. This 10 minute trauma-informed yoga class is a supportive practice when you feel overstimulated and overwhelmed and wish to feel more grounded, calm, and connected to your surroundings and body (if you feel comfortable). If you’ve reached a point of overwhelm and have started to feel disconnected from yourself, I invite you to explore my 15 Min Yoga Class for Numbness and Dissociation.

If you’d like a quick class to return to center and to ease out of an overstimulated state, I welcome you to learn more about this gentle class.

What to Expect in This Yoga for Overstimulation Practice

This 10-minute yoga for overstimulation practice explores grounding, gentle movement, and restful poses to support moments when your mind and body feel overwhelmed.

This is also a trauma-informed yoga practice, which means everything is optional in this class. I welcome you to explore this class at your own pace and do anything that would feel most supportive for your body, nervous system, and energy levels.

There are no props required, but you’re welcome to add your own if you like. There are no standing postures and this class is supportive for all experience levels.

In today’s practice, we’ll explore:

  • Grounding (0:15)
We’ll begin seated, taking a moment to ground into our space, with an option to place your hands on the mat or floor to create a deeper sense of support.
  • Gentle Movement (3:15)
Then, we’ll explore gentle movement and poses that are supportive for releasing tension, creating more containment, and moments of rest.
  • Grounding (8:30)
We’ll end the class with a moment of grounding to ease you out of the practice and into the rest of your day feeling more calm and centered.
  • Closing (9:15)
