Welcome to Day 2 of Embody & Bloom: The Foundation Yoga Series, exploring trauma-informed yoga for grounding and nervous system regulation. This is part of a trauma-informed yoga series designed to gently support sexual trauma survivors in reconnecting with their bodies through safety, presence, and choice.
If you like, I welcome you to explore the full series overview and all seven practices here: Embody & Bloom: Foundation Yoga Series.
Today expands on Day 1’s practice: Creating Safety in Your Nervous System. We’ll continue to tend to your nervous system with a gentle focus on grounding and settling into the support that holds you. We stay low to the ground throughout this practice, allowing comfort, support, and rest.
Grounding is more than simply “being present.” It allows us to return to the practice if we’ve drifted, create a stable anchor to return to if we start to feel we’re exploring too much, and is a gentle reminder that you can always return home – always return to grounding. If you’d like to add a deeper sense of support or grounding, I welcome you to drape a blanket over you during any class in this series.
What to Expect in This Trauma-Informed Yoga Practice
This 20 minute trauma-informed yoga class supports grounding, settling, and nervous system regulation through gentle movement and restful poses.
We’ll explore:
- Grounding (1:25)
We begin today seated, exploring a seated grounding practice to settle into our space. - Gentle Movement (4:20)
Next, we explore a little bit of movement with side stretches and seated twists to soften tension. - Restful Poses (6:20)
We’ll explore a gentle forward fold and move into other grounding shapes like knee to chest, supine butterfly, supine twist, and legs up the wall pose for deep nervous system support. - Grounding (22:15)
We’ll end with a few more moments of grounding so you can ease from your practice and back into your day. - Closing (22:35)

Who This Practice Is For
This practice is supportive if you:
- Feel disconnected, overwhelmed, or dysregulated
- Experience moments of anxiety or shutdown
- Wish to deepen grounding and embodiment
- Prefer slow, floor-based, yoga classes
- Would like to explore yoga for nervous system support
This is a trauma informed yoga practice, which means everything I offer is optional. I welcome you to move at your own pace and explore the poses in a way that feels right for your nervous system, body, and energy levels.
There are no props required and this class is supportive for all experience levels. There are no standing postures in this practice.
If you’d like to add more support, I invite you to add a yoga bolster or a few pillows to your practice. I offer supportive options in the top right corner of the screen if you’d like to include props. You might also choose to drape a blanket over you at any time for a deeper sense of grounding.
