Sometimes we become so busy or overwhelmed that we end up crashing, feeling like doing anything is impossible, or that we’re moving through sand. This can be from stress, unprocessed trauma still in our bodies, or other physical factors like not getting enough sleep.

To learn more about how to find deep rest after trauma, I welcome you to explore my Guide to Healing Exhaustion, Burnout, and Sleep.

If you’re feeling drained, heavy, or depleted, this trauma informed yoga practice will support you so you can fully unwind, relax, and feel more like yourself. We’ll allow deep rest for your body in supported poses, using very minimal effort so you can simply be and tend to your nervous system.

When we give ourselves permission to slow down, we can begin to notice what our bodies are asking for. Sometimes this looks like movement, and sometimes this looks like allowing ourselves full permission to rest.

If you’d like to rest deeply and support your nervous system when you feel drained and weighed down, I invite you to learn more about this practice below.

What to Expect in This Yoga for When You Feel Drained Practice

This yoga practice supports your nervous system with deep rest and supported poses that ask you to simply arrive and be.

This is also a trauma-informed yoga practice, which means everything is optional and an invitation. You’re welcome to make any adjustments, end the practice early, or do anything during class that would make you feel most supported.

For today’s class, I invite you to include a yoga bolster or thick pillow if you have one, but you’re welcome to explore this practice without any props. I offer additional pose options if you choose to practice without props.

In today’s practice, we’ll explore:

  • Restful Poses (0:30)
We’ll begin today’s class in a supported fish pose with a bolster, option to explore this class with either a pillow or no props at all. Then, we explore a few more supportive poses to allow full rest including butterfly pose while in supported fish pose and supine twists.
  • Savasana (12:05)
We’ll end our class with a two minute savasana (option to adjust as you like) and end the class seated.
  • Closing (16:35)
