Grief after sexual trauma can feel heavy, confusing, and isolating, and this gentle trauma-informed yoga class honors these feelings, allowing you to move at your own pace, healing grief in a way that feels supportive for you.

When we usually talk about grief, most people think of the loss of a loved one, but we can also grieve after trauma. Maybe it’s feeling like we’ve lost a sense of safety or trust. Maybe it’s grief for the person we might have been if our traumas never happened.

Too often, trauma survivors are told to stay positive and get back into life. Be resilient. This might make some feel like their emotions are too much and repress the grief that is asking to be held and seen. Grief and tears are not failures or signs of brokenness. They’re signs of healing, and this gentle class honors how grief can weigh on us, and that it’s okay to allow this feeling for as long as you feel comfortable.

We’ll begin this class seated, grounding into our space and exploring an intention to honor our grief. Then, we’ll settle our nervous systems with gentle exercises and explore movement, opening the areas that hold onto grief like our heart space and side body. After, we’ll explore restful poses like child’s pose, supported fish, supine twist, and end with a gentle restful pose of your choosing.

If you’d like to be with yourself, tend to your nervous system, and provide yourself with gentle comfort when healing grief, I welcome you to learn more about this supportive class.

What to Expect in This Practice

This is a trauma-informed yoga practice, which means everything offered is optional. You are always welcome to move at your own pace, pause, rest, or skip anything that doesn’t feel right for your body, nervous system, or energy levels.

This practice is supportive for all experience levels and stays low to the ground with no standing postures. You’re welcome to include a yoga bolster for additional comfort, but I offer other options if you prefer not to use props.

We’ll explore:

  • Seated Grounding and Intention (0:30)
We’ll begin seated, arriving in your body and your space. This moment invites you to ground and explore an optional intention to honor grief.
  • Nervous System Support (2:30)
We’ll explore exercises like a gentle self hug and butterfly taps to create more support, safety, and presence in your body.
  • Gentle Movement to Release Grief (5:30)
We’ll move into slow, mindful movement, focusing on areas where grief is often held like our heart space and side body.
  • Restful, Supported Poses (10:30)
As we transition to the ground, we’ll explore restful poses such as child’s pose, supported fish, and gentle twists.
  • Yogi’s Choice and Closing (25:40)
Toward the end of the practice, you’ll be invited to choose a final resting shape that feels most supportive for you.
