Finding gratitude is a supportive way to recognize the beauty and support in our lives, allowing for more positivity and wholeness.
But sometimes, exploring gratitude can feel overwhelming or dismissive of our feelings, especially after trauma. It might feel as though we’re trying to push away anything negative, like we’re not supposed to feel heaviness if we’re grateful.
This can create a difficult balance between honoring our feelings and expressing gratitude. This yoga for gratitude class recognizes this balance and welcomes the idea that maybe our feelings aren’t “negative,” but deserve to be seen and we can also find moments of gratitude at the same time.
We’ll also explore a more present-focused way of exploring gratitude, since sometimes it can be hard to find what we’re grateful for. Instead, we’ll simply notice what is present for us in the current moment and honor that this in itself is enough.
This class is not about pushing anything away or ignoring heavy or difficult moments, but about exploring how we can hold light and dark, honoring that both can be true at the same time. We’ll move slowly, exploring gentle yoga poses and rest to create a gentle trauma-informed yoga for gratitude class that moves at your own pace and time.
If you’d like to explore gratitude in a way that feels gentle and supportive, I invite you to join me for this practice.
What to Expect in This Yoga for Gratitude Practice
This is a trauma-informed yoga practice that explores gratitude through presence, awareness, and gentle movement.
Since this is a trauma informed yoga practice, everything I offer is optional. I welcome you to move at your own pace and explore the class in a way that feels supportive for your body, nervous system, and energy levels. You’re welcome to pause, skip, or end at any time, knowing that you never need to do anything just because I offered it.
There are no props required for today’s class, but you’re always welcome to include your own at any time.
This practice is supportive for all experience levels, and there are no standing postures.
In today’s class, we’ll explore:
- Grounding (0:30)
We’ll begin today seated, grounding into our space and exploring gratitude through presence. Sometimes finding what we’re grateful for can feel difficult, so we’ll simply explore what is true for us in the current moment. - Gentle Movement (3:30)
After, we’ll explore gentle movement and allow the support of the floor to hold us in poses like child’s pose, cat/cow, supine butterfly, supine twist, and spend a few moments where you can explore anything you’re craving. Maybe that’s more rest or a few gentle movements, anything is welcome. - Grounding & Closing (13:40)
We’ll end the class seated and spend a moment sending ourselves gratitude for arriving to the practice.
