You might notice that after a long day you carry tension in your body. This might arise as tight shoulders, a clenched jaw, restless energy, or feeling like you can’t fully settle and relax. After a busy or stressful day, it can be difficult for our bodies and nervous systems to shift from doing into resting.

This trauma informed yoga to release tension and reset your nervous system practice allows a few moments to set down your day, soften, and reconnect with yourself.

We’ll explore gentle movements and restful poses that allow your mind, body, and nervous system to unwind in its own pace, knowing there’s never any pressure to feel a certain way or to release all tension after this class. This is just a simple invitation to tend to yourself, and allow a few moments of self care and rest after a long day.

If you feel tense and stiff from your day and wish to find softness and grounding, I invite you to join me for this gentle class.

What to Expect in This Trauma Informed Yoga Practice

This is a 10-minute trauma-informed yoga practice that softens tension from stress and tends to an overwhelmed nervous system.

This is also a trauma informed yoga practice, meaning everything offered is optional. I welcome you to move at your own pace and honor what feels right for you in each moment, knowing you can take breaks or end at any time.

There are no props required for today’s class, but you’re always welcome to include your own for more comfort. This practice is supportive for all experience levels, and there are no standing postures.

We’ll explore:

  • Gentle Movement (0:35)
We’ll begin seated, exploring gentle movements like neck rolls, shoulder rolls, and seated cat/cow or any intuitive movement that speak to you to release tension.
  • Restful Poses (2:30)
We’ll allow rest for our nervous systems in supportive poses like child’s pose, supine butterfly, and supine twist.
  • 8:30 Seated Grounding & Closing (8:30)
We’ll end today’s class seated for a moment of grounding.

Why Gentle Movement Supports Nervous System Regulation

When we experience stress in our day to day lives, our bodies can respond by holding tension, leading to tight shoulders, holding our breath, or clenching our jaw. Sometimes we may notice when this is happening, and other times we may not realize it until we take a few moments to find rest.

Gentle movement gives us a chance to slow down, check in, and soften this holding that can leave us feeling tense and uncomfortable.

This class focuses on supportive movement instead of deep stretches or long holds. The goal isn’t to force relaxation, but to create a space where your nervous system can settle naturally. When we send our body the signal that it’s okay to rest and the stress is over, we can find ourselves feeling much more settled within our bodies.
