Emotions like anger and irritability can live in our bodies. It doesn’t always show up as an obvious sensation, sometimes it can be more subtle like tension, agitation, frustration, tight shoulders, shallow breathing, or feeling irritable but not sure why.
This practices explores somatic yoga for anger and irritability release through awareness, slow movements, and nervous system regulation. You may feel like anger is something you need to fix or hide, but this practice welcomes you to notice what is present, allowing a moment for your body to release. Even acknowledging an emotion can be enough to notice less holding and bracing.
This class isn’t designed to calm you down or think positively into positive emotions, but about honoring how you feel in this current moment, giving your emotions a moment to move through you.
We’ll send gentle messages that it’s safe for your body to let go, to tune in and see where anger is held within you, and explore somatic movements to awaken this anger energy and release it. When we meet any healthy emotion (like anger) with curiosity instead of judgment, our intelligent bodies allow for more natural release.
What to Expect in This Practice
This is a slow moving, low-to-the-ground somatic yoga class focused on awareness, grounding, and gentle release.
This is also a trauma-informed practice, meaning everything is optional. I welcome you to pause, skip, adjust, or do anything that would make this a more supportive class for you. How you choose to arrive and explore this class is perfect and allows for a deeper somatic experience.
There are no props required, no standing postures, and this class is supportive for all experience levels.
We’ll explore:
- Grounding and Tension Release (0:00)
We’ll begin in child’s pose with thread the needle to release tension in your upper body and shoulders. This is also a grounding and comforting pose which is important for any somatic practice to include grounding. I welcome you to learn more about somatic yoga for beginners and grounding in this blog post. - Seated Somatic Movement for Anger Release (5:45)
We’ll explore slow movements to bring awareness to areas that hold anger in your upper body as well as give you an outlet to release stress and irritability. - Supine Exploration: Hips, Jaw, and Tension Release (10:30)
Anger often becomes stuck in areas like our jaw and hips. We’ll explore windshield wiper legs, supine butterfly, and a gentle jaw massage for awareness and release. - Self Hug and Grounding (14:00)
Grounding allows your nervous system to integrate the class. Self hugs are comforting and grounding, giving your body the signal to end the practice. This prevents you from ending the class and feeling wired and unsettled. - Closing (16:20)

Who This Class Is For
This practice is supportive if you:
- Feel irritable, frustrated, or feel like there is anger stored in your body
- Have tension in your jaw, shoulders, upper body, or hips
- Have a sensitive nervous system and prefer slower somatic movement
During this class, you might experience more body awareness, shaking, release, or a subtle presence. Even if you feel nothing, that is entirely okay. The “goal” isn’t to have a massive release, but to connect with ourselves and see what needs tending to, even if that’s just allowing presence.
We may feel more disconnected one day or feel like we’re not receiving any signals from our bodies. This isn’t a fault, just where we are. Our bodies will speak to us and release when they feel ready. There’s no right or wrong way to experience or feel during this class.
