Chakra affirmations are supportive for balancing and setting intentions for your practice. When using chakra affirmations for trauma healing, it’s even more important to use affirmations that won’t introduce forced feelings or deny your emotions. I’ve taken care creating each of these affirmations and you can pick which ones speak to you.

First, What Are Chakras?

Chakras are part of your subtle energy system, and when aligned, can provide enlightenment and feelings of inner peace, belonging, and a sense of purpose.

While there are many chakras in your body, many traditional texts and yoga classes focus on the seven most prominent ones in your body that are located along your spine. Each chakra governs different mental, physical, and spiritual attributes.

What causes a chakra imbalance?

Many factors may contribute to a chakra imbalance. Experiences and daily habits cause a chakra imbalance in most people. This could be anything from the foods you eat, the amount of exercise you get each day, mindset, and more. Trauma can also cause a chakra imbalance in your subtle energy system.

I welcome you to read more about in-depth about your chakras, how sexual trauma can impact them, and how to find balance.

Why use affirmations?

Purpose Of Affirmations

Affirmations are a helpful tool in meditations and practices to narrow your focus and embody what you are aiming to cultivate. You say them in the present tense and it’s best to avoid negative affirmations.

It’s better to say “I choose healing options that make me feel safe,” instead of “I avoid healing options that trigger me.” Keeping it positive will support a more positive mindset.

Their purpose is to shift your focus so you can ultimately make your affirmation your reality. You can use them to cultivate something tangible you want, like money, or a feeling you want like improved self-esteem. This is like the law of attraction. Here is a simple example of how an affirmation can create change in your life:

You repeat the affirmation: I am successful at my job. You repeat this enough times and it forms in your subconscious. Then, you take action to make this happen. Maybe you sign up for a new training to gain more skills and become a more valuable team member or you take more initiative. Eventually, you receive a promotion from your efforts.

The affirmation itself didn’t create your desired outcome, you did. But it all began when you placed your focus on what you wanted to cultivate.

This is simple for daily life goals, but may become more complicated with trauma healing. It’s important to use healthy affirmations that don’t cross into toxic positivity or deny your emotions.

I also want to note that affirmations don’t heal trauma on their own. You are welcome to explore support options on your healing journey to accompany your chakra healing practice.

Next, I’ll explain what you can do to make sure your trauma healing affirmations are supportive to you healing.

What makes A good Chakra affirmation for trauma healing?

Not all affirmations are equal, and some can be potentially harmful to your healing. Trauma healing is different because certain affirmations can cross a line into toxic positivity.

Over my sexual trauma healing journey, I’ve come across a few components of an affirmation that isn’t helpful for trauma healing. Below are some examples of affirmations that may not be suitable.

Unsupportive Affirmation Characteristics:

  • Asks to forgive those who caused the trauma. Example: “I release all pain and forgive those who’ve wronged me.” Trauma-informed yoga will never ask you to forgive those who caused your trauma. That is a personal choice and something you define for yourself.
  • Denies current feelings. Example: Repeating, “I am happy,” when you’re not. This denies your current emotions which can cause frustration and judgment.
  •  Unrealistic. Example: “I see myself forever moving on and forgetting my trauma.” This can lead to judgement, glossing over your feelings, and asking for something that isn’t helpful for trauma healing.

So, what makes a good affirmation? Below are tips that support creating an affirmation that will work for you and your trauma healing:

Healing Affirmation Characterists:

  • It’s true to you. For example, only saying “I am safe,” if that is true in the present moment.
  • It acknowledges the complexities of trauma healing. This means it offers grace, invitation, and welcomes patience. An example could be, “I offer myself kindness in difficult times.”
  • It makes you feel positively. If you feel resistance to an affirmation, it may not be the best one for you to use. Some may argue that resistance is a good thing. An example of this is you say, “I’m ready for healing.” But, what if you’re not ready? Many factors can contribute to why you may or may not be ready for this. You could still be near a threat, in a busy time in your life and adding healing could be too overwhelming, or other factors. If you repeat an affirmation and you notice a negative shift in your body (feelings of overwhelm, guilt, or something else), then it’s okay to skip it. If an affirmation feels inviting and aspirational, then you’re on the right track. It is always your choice which techniques you include in your practice.

An affirmation that feels right to you and supports the chakra you’re focusing on is the best one to use.

49 Chakra Affirmations For Trauma Healing

Before we dive in, I’d like to say that there is a difference between an affirmation and a mantra. Each chakra has an associated mantra (an example is your root chakra, Lam).

You chant mantras to produce a certain vibration that supports balancing your chakras. An affirmation is a phrase or sentence to cultivate a desired outcome or feeling. I list each mantra for your chakras as a reference.

You are welcome to use these outright, adjust them to better suit you, or skip them completely.

Root Chakra (Muladhara)

Mantra: Lam ( I am)

Your root chakra governs your basic safety and security. Safety is vital to any trauma healing practice, so I welcome you to spend as much time on these affirmations as you choose.

  1. I am grounded and supported by the Earth
  2. I am abundant in my healing
  3. I am safe
  4. I am welcoming healing into my life
  5. I am worthy of healing
  6. My body is safe to come home to
  7. I trust the healing process

Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana)

Mantra: Vam (I feel)

Your sacral chakra is the center of your emotions, sexuality and creativity, and bonding. Many sexual trauma survivors have an imbalanced sacral chakra, and these are gentle affirmations to welcome healing.

  1. I welcome relationships that support my healing
  2. It is safe to form relationships
  3. I attract people who respect my boundaries
  4. I am loveable
  5. I am allowed to feel pleasure
  6. It is safe to express my sexuality
  7. I offer my body love and respect

Solar Plexus (Manipura)

Mantra: Ram (I do)

Your solar plexus is the center of confidence, action and boundaries. Your motivation, work ethic, and power are also part of your solar plexus.

  1. I am powerful
  2. I am enough
  3. I honor my strength
  4. I am safe to say “no”
  5. I set boundaries that empower me
  6. Healing is possible for me
  7. My worth is whole and complete

Heart Chakra (Anahata)

Mantra: Yam (I love)

Your heart center is the center of self love and love of others. This chakra also is the transition between your physical and spiritual chakras.

  1. I deserve love
  2. I invite people into my life who treat me respectfully
  3. I deserve kindness and safety in my relationships
  4. I prioritize self love and care
  5. I embrace joyful moments
  6. I welcome love to all of me
  7. I am worthy of giving and receiving love

Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)

Mantra: Ham (I speak)

Your throat chakra governs how you speak to yourself and others. This also includes how you listen and if you speak truthfully and authentically.

These affirmations do not suggest you should report someone who caused your trauma. That is a personal decision for you to decide.

  1. I am safe to speak my boundaries
  2. I welcome positive conversations in my life
  3. My voice and story matter
  4.  I welcome self expression into my life
  5. My voice is powerful
  6. I speak kindly to myself
  7. I speak my truth

3rd Eye Chakra (Ajna)

Mantra: Om (I see)

This chakra governs your intuition, spirituality, and imagination. You may question your intuition after trauma, so I welcome you to take all the time you need with these affirmations.

  1. I trust my intuition
  2. My inner guidance is powerful
  3. I am needed in this world
  4. I welcome healing avenues that give me peace
  5. I use my imagination to see all the ways I can heal
  6. I believe healing is possible for me
  7. I allow my wisdom to guide my healing

Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)

Mantra: Breathwork, Meditation (I know)

Your crown chakra is your most spiritual chakra and your connection to something much greater than your physical body. This is the chakra that helps you achieve enlightenment (after you balance your other chakras). If unbalanced, you may feel a low sense of purpose.

These affirmations may not be supportive if you are not spiritual or believe in a higher power. You are welcome to only use the ones that resonate with you.

  1. I am safe to live in the present moment
  2. My spirit is radiant and guides me
  3. My inner strength is powerful
  4. My life is worthy and beautiful
  5. I am open to the possibilities of healing
  6. I trust the universe to guide me to inner peace
  7. It is safe to be my most authentic self
